Whilst I sit and wait ever so patiently for my Derby Style fabric to show up, I thought I’;d take a minute and talk about some fun things that I’;ve been up to the last few months. ?Who am I kidding…;. I’;m NOT waiting patiently for my fabric at. all. ?*wink* ?.. I’;m anxious to get sewing with it and feel like I’;m having a hard time getting back into the routine of blogging. I keep telling myself “;when I get the fabric in, then I can make ______ “;. I know I could do a million other things in the meantime but it’;s just kinda hanging over my head right now. ?Last I heard it’;s due to arrive in a couple of weeks…; fingers crossed!

In November I was asked to speak at the Louisville Modern Quilt Guild meeting. ?I had met Heather of House on Hill Road and she asked if I’;d like to come and speak. It’;s funny I’;ve followed her blog for a long time (ever since she posted what I think is the very first twirly skirt tutorial) but never put two and two together that she’;s a fellow Louisvillian.

The quilt guild asked me to come and talk about my book and share some gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season. So I filled up my car with a bunch of samples and spent the afternoon chatting about sewing, quiltsyellow throw pillows, gifts and lots of other fun stuff.

One of the members snapped some photos of me during my presentation (I swiped these photos from their blog)–; I knew I got a little red faced when I spoke but it cracks me up to see all of the “;candid”; shots with me mid sentence…;

apparently I use my hands a lot when I talk…; who knew? ?Everyone should have someone snap photos of them when they are speaking, if for no other reason than to have a good laugh afterwards.

Here you can see my samples all piled up on the tables. The quilt and pillow above are both projects from Project Teen.

I also toted along a few of the samples I made from my Derby Style Fabric, including my Prize Ribbons Quilt.

I really do love it. I know that many of you have asked about the pattern. It’;s coming!! I just want to make sure it’;s correct and thorough before I release it. It will come as a PDF first, then printed later. (I’;ll take wholesale orders then, just stay tuned).

I also recently taught a class at Quilters Square in Lexington, Kentucky. I was able to walk a group of ladies through making the study pillow, and have a book signing. ? I love meeting people and especially love meeting people who love quilting and fabric as much as I do. ?I truly enjoy teaching and hope that there are more opportunities in the future to do it more often.

Lastly, at Quilt Market in October I chatted with the ladies from Fat Quarter Shop and filmed a little video with them.

They put together a fun little project asking several sewing “;celebrities”; (I use that word loosely where I’;m concerned) asking Kim any question they wanted.

You can watch it here, and when you get to my part, be kind…;. it turns out I’;m taller than the camera *wink*
